Quality of care will be an important driver for hospital consolidations in the near future. One important aspect of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is the establishment of direct financial consequences for low quality performers, making that a top priority. Consequently, quality of care and reimbursement will be linked, providing an additional incentive for hospitals to join a health system or network.
